Confidentiality in Therapy
The work we do together is confidential. However, there are specific circumstances where your therapist may be required to break confidentiality. When you sign the client consent form, you acknowledge that our online and in-person counseling services are governed by the Laws of Manitoba, Canada, and the Standards of Practice set forth by the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW).
As per MCSW Standards of Practice, your therapist may disclose information about you without your consent in the following situations:
To Protect Against Imminent Harm: If there is a clear and substantial risk that you may inflict imminent serious harm on yourself or others.
When Required by Law: If disclosure is mandated by a Provincial or Federal Act, regulation, or court order.
To Collect Fees: If necessary, your information may be disclosed to a collection agency to recover unpaid fees.
To Defend Professional Conduct: If required to defend against a complaint of unprofessional conduct.
Under Regulatory Oversight: If directed by an investigator or prosecutor in connection with a complaint under the Social Work Profession Act.
These measures are in place to ensure the safety of all parties. If a concern arises, we will always strive to discuss the situation with you before taking any action.
