Counselling for Women
Find Healing and Hope.
Supportive Counseling for Women in Every Season of Life.
Are You Searching For Empathetic, Nonjudgmental Mental Health Support?
We encounter unique obstacles as women. Many of us experience immense pressure to excel and exceed in every area of our lives—and look good while doing it. The juggle of responsibilities is real, and it often falls on us to make sure that every item is checked off the to-do list.
So, where does this leave us? Usually left behind and feeling like something big is missing. Regardless of where we might be in life, feelings of stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem are common among women of all ages and backgrounds. After all, relationship conflict, major life transitions, and unhealed emotional wounds from the past tend to introduce big, existential questions and distort our self-understanding, which then creates a sense of physical and emotional discomfort that is, at times, unbearable.
What’s Your Experience?
Maybe you’re struggling to feel seen, valued, and appreciated in your life. You’re often so busy tending to the needs of others that you lack the capacity to care for yourself—perhaps beginning to resent those around you for having less responsibility, setting impossible expectations, or not offering to help more.
You may be struggling to sleep soundly, eat well, or maintain a daily routine. Going through the motions of life without feeling grounded has probably made it difficult for you to experience a sense of fulfillment or purpose, causing you to feel altogether disconnected from your mind, body, and spirit.
Yet, it’s not as if you’ve been empowered to assert your boundaries, validate your emotions, or ask for help! As women, we’re conditioned to put others’ needs before our own and always strive for perfection—particularly if we grew up in an environment with high standards due to specific cultural or religious norms. In these situations, it’s easy to lose sight of what we really want and feel lost as we attempt to navigate our fears, relationships, and life purpose seemingly on our own.
Counselling offers women an opportunity to dedicate time and space to their emotional wellbeing under the guidance of a trained and empathetic professional. Through the therapeutic process, a new sense of healing and empowerment can be achieved.
Society Doesn’t Always Validate Women’s Experiences And Emotions
It’s easy to internalize the often damaging messages we are given as women, from the expectation to be “perfect” to the belief that our emotions are invalid or overblown. Many of us struggle with daily stress and a negative inner critic without realizing that these feelings signal something deeper.
Typically, at the core of our symptoms, we’ll find a negative, painful, or stressful experience that has altered our self-understanding. Another term for this effect is trauma. And while many women are quick to discount their experiences as being “traumatic,” trauma results from any situation in which we feel overly stressed, unsafe, or underprepared. Trauma varies in size, shape, and effect on our lives.
All of us encounter disruptive challenges that have the potential to jeopardize our physical, mental, and emotional health—but instead of feeling empowered to seek help, many of us feel like we have to navigate our emotions without support.
If You’re Struggling With The Effects Of Stress And Trauma, You Are Not Alone
Due to factors like cultural norms and gender-based discrimination/violence, women experience stress, trauma, and mental health struggles at higher rates than men. As a result, many of us battle daily symptoms of anxiety, depression, relational challenges, and other unresolved wounds—all in a culture that seeks to disempower and disconnect us.
We’re here to assure you that healing is possible. Working alongside a trained therapist who understands and empathizes with what we experience as women, you can set foot onto a path of more clarity, confidence, and connection in your life.

What To Expect
Our therapists are specially trained in highly effective, strengths-based treatment approaches that simultaneously address surface-level symptoms and identify root causes. Using behavioural therapies—including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)—we will work to expand your window of tolerance and develop more rational, self-compassionate thought patterns.
Grounding techniques that promote calm, presence, and relaxation will be implemented to help you stay mindful and present. And revolutionary trauma-informed methods like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) will create new neural pathways that are not constantly ringing alarm bells. Ultimately, the goal of counselling is to help you develop a new relationship with your thoughts, your anxieties, and yourself.
Your feelings are real and valid! Like the other women we work with in therapy, you’ve been expected to do so much—often at the expense of your emotional, physical, and relational health. While pushing through or relying on old coping mechanisms may have worked for a while, it’s time for long-term relief and space for you in your life. Through counselling, you will gain a newfound sense of empowerment and lifelong skills for navigating the unique and specific obstacles we face as women.

Common Concerns About The Therapeutic Process…
Counselling doesn’t work/isn’t warranted for what I’m going through.
While we’re seeing mental health treatment be more and more normalised in our culture, there are still a lot of misconceptions about therapy. Maybe you’re skeptical about what talking to a therapist can accomplish, or you’ve been conditioned to believe that needing support signals weakness or incompetence, but the truth is this process works! The proof is in the research. [1]
That said, this process is effective only as long as you are ready and willing to put forth the effort. Therapists don’t have a magic wand that zaps away the distress and discomfort, but we do have really helpful tools, techniques, and resources that can make a long-term difference in your life
I had a negative experience with a therapist in the past, and now I’m afraid of feeling judged, triggered, or misunderstood in counselling.
We’re sorry to hear that you have had bad experiences with counselling in the past, and it’s commendable that you’re open to trying again. Ideally, this process is designed to make you feel better, not worse!
The therapist-client fit is probably the most significant factor when it comes to determining the outcome of treatment. It’s important to work with someone who validates your emotions, empathizes with the struggles that women encounter, and offers tangible skills that make sense for you, which is why many therapists offer complimentary consultations to help you get a sense of their approach.
At Orion Wellness, we want to make therapy feel as approachable as possible and hope that our warm, genuine, and effective practice will prove to be a good fit.
I can just go on medication to address my mental health symptoms.
While medication can be helpful in some instances, it is only one part of a treatment plan and works best when incorporated alongside therapeutic tools learned in counselling. Our approach focuses on developing skills and strategies that you can continually draw from as new stressors and transitions arise. This process helps you connect your thoughts, feelings, self-beliefs, and behaviours in a way that facilitates long-term healing and relief.
If you’re interested in pursuing medication, we are happy to connect you with a licensed prescriber who can assess your symptoms and go over medication options with you.
